Moreno Cardenas Inc. received a gold award for the design of the Westside Flood Damage Improvements Project presented by the Texas Council of Engineering Companies at its annual meeting in Austin.
04/20/2010 — Over forty projects were submitted in this year’s state-wide competition and only twelve were gold award recipients. The award recognizes the Silver Springs Rd. – Shadow Mountain Rd. project for its originality, technical complexity, value to the engineering profession, successfully meeting the client needs, and integration of sustainable features. Green elements include xeriscape landscaping of medians, use of reclaimed water, desilting basins to improve storm water quality, bike lanes and jogging paths parallel to the channel along Silver Springs and numerous urbanscape design features.
The project was a result of damages sustained in this area of west El Paso after Storm 2006 and the improvements significantly increase the storm water capacity of the channel. The $13 million project was designed in 60 days and construction was completed in less than 2 years.
